WHY THE NAME "BEAUFORT ADVISORS"?

Beaufort Advisors is named in honor of Clarence Schuyler Maxwell, M.D. (1876-1970), a pioneering North Carolina physician and gentleman farmer who practiced medicine in the town of Beaufort, NC.

Dr. Maxwell received his degree as a Pharmacist and Doctor of Medicine in 1901, served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during WWI, was a surgeon in the U.S. Public Health Service, and was the nation’s oldest practicing physician when he retired in 1968. Dr. Maxwell was the great uncle of Al and Schuyler Ritter, two of Beaufort Advisors’ founders, and had a profound influence on both of them.
